Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 ½ cups rye flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp fine sea salt
- 1 ½ cups dark chocolate chips
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugars – In a large bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 min).
- Add eggs and vanilla – Add eggs and mix till smooth, then stir in vanilla.
- Mix dry ingredients – In a separate bowl, whisk together rye flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Combine – Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
- Stir in chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).
- Scoop and bake – Drop heaping tablespoons of dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
- Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but centers look slightly soft.
- Cool on the baking sheet 1 minute, then transfer to a wire rack.
